Librium Side Effects: What Is Librium?

Attachment Large Size Large Wp Post Image

The active ingredient in Librium is Chlordiazepoxide HCl, and the drug is classified as a benzodiazepine. What is Librium used for? This prescription medication is used to treat anxiety, help relieve fear before surgery, and reduce the severity of alcohol withdrawal symptoms. However, are Librium’s side effects worth using the drug?

How Long Does Librium Stay In Your System?

Psychological factors can determine the duration of time Librium side effects last and how long the drug stays in a person’s system. Factors include age, genetics, overall health or conditions, and body mass index. Individuals with a higher max index will acquire more fatty tissues, which keeps the drug absorbed longer.   Other factors include the amount of Librium consumed, how long the drug was taken, how it was taken, and frequency. If a person consumes smaller doses, but with shorter periods between uses, the effects can be similar to someone who takes a large amount of Librium at one time. After chronic doses, the half-life can reach 48 hours. Also, if the drug is being tested using urination, salvia, or hair, this may impact the duration of how long it is detected in the body’s system. Drugs often are found in hair follicles months after an individual’s last use.

Side Effects of Librium

Depending on the degree and duration of Librium used, side effects may be less or more extreme. Stopping “cold-turkey” can lead to painful withdrawal symptoms, which is why a Librium detox under professional care is advised. Here are some side effects that follow Librium abuse:

  • Nausea
  • Low libido
  • Constipation
  • Liver problems
  • Abnormal blood cells
  • Irregular menstruation
  • Yellowing skin and eyes
  • Impaired muscle control

Anyone undergoing these symptoms or showing signs of addiction should speak to a professional and seek benzodiazepine detox and treatment. Serious Librium side effects can lead to blood disorders, jaundice, and organ dysfunction. Librium effects can be moderate to severe but will need medical attention, especially if there are signs of benzo addiction which can lead to overdose.
