Restoril Side Effects and Addiction

Attachment Large Size Large Wp Post Image

LazyloadWhat is Restoril used for? The benzodiazepine is also referred to by its generic name, temazepam. The drug affects chemicals in the brain and signals in the central nervous system (CNS). The medication is used to treat sleeping disorders such as insomnia. If you acquire underlying conditions such as lung disease, depression, alcoholism, or drug addiction, speak to your doctor before taking Restoril. To avoid overdose or potential long-term health complications, ask about Restoril’s side effects.

Is Restoril Addictive?

Restoril addiction is common. Like other benzos, temazepam is classified as a Schedule IV drug which means that the drug is used for medical purposes but also increases the chance of substance abuse. A person may show signs of addiction by continuing misuse after finishing a prescription and purchasing pills off the street. Street names or slang for benzos like temazepam include downers, nerve pills, and tranks.

What Are the Side Effects of Restoril?

Restoril over the counter may produce adverse side effects that can lead to overdose. People may consume the drug by swallowing tablets, crushing them up, or using a white crystalline powder that can either be snorted or liquified and injected. If a person is showing signs of addiction or frequently misusing the drug, then a Restoril detox may be necessary to avoid overdose. Common short-term Restoril side effects include:

  • Sedation
  • Confusion
  • Slowed pulse
  • Slurred speech
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Low blood pressure
  • Impaired coordination
  • Difficulty concentrating

Long-term side effects of Restoril include headaches, anxiety, insomnia, weight loss, or anorexia. Understanding the difference between drug misuse and drug abuse can help someone who may be showing signs of physical dependence on the substance. Speak to a professional and receive quality advice to help someone who may be struggling with drug abuse.

How Long Does Restoril Stay In Your System?

Temazepam, like most benzodiazepines, shares the same process for metabolizing in the body. The Restoril half-life may be 8 to 20 hours, but the metabolic process of the drug slows down after continuous use. Temazepam acts fast within the body’s system, kicking into motion after 10 to 20 minutes after use. The duration a drug lasts in the body depends on numerous factors such as genetics, the dose of Restoril, and how frequently the drug is taken.
